Trailer 2 Dialogue

 ---

(4) Casey: Who are you guys?

(5) Mack: Oh no.

      Brady: Oh yes!

(6) Brady: I'm Brady, and I've got to say that I'm a big fan.

(7) Casey: Thanks, I guess... where di you even come from though? And how do you know me?!

(8) Brady: Well surprisingly it's not a very long story-

(9) Brady: I got it for super cheap from some guy online and besides a few glitches it works perfectly.

(10) Mack: You call that working fine?

      Brady: That always happens...

(11) Mack: Ok, you can't tell me that's safe!

(12) Casey: Wait, that didn't explain how you get here at all.

(13) Brady: I said it wasn't long, and that's for a reason.

(14) Mack: What are we gonna do! *whispering*

(15) Brady: Just us being here is already changing the movie. She wasn't supposed to survive, and now the killer might go for someone else instead.

(16) Brady: We need to fix the movie, and then find a way out of here.

Mack: I think getting out of here is more important!

(17) Mack: Just when I thought this day couldn't get weirder...

(18) C and J: Who are you guys?

(19) Mack: Their outfits are a little off but for pocket dimension created within a movie within a movie, it's a pretty accurate recreation!

THE FILTER

You may have seen a line referencing a color filter in the dialogue for the first trailer.

I included that line because it came to my attention that many horror movies, but in the 2000s especially, had weird filters over the ENTIRE movie.

I mean just look at this shot from SAW.

and now compare it to how this same scene looks without the filter:

I'm not saying that I dislike the green filter. I think it actually adds a lot to the grimy and dirty feel of the Saw franchise, especially when it clashes with the blood-red color of blood.

(now that I look closer, it seems like the green filter was cranked all the way to 11 for Saw II)

But there are some other instances where the filters don't add anything to the movie, and can sometimes even make the movie actively annoying to watch.

Take a look at this image from Scream 4. What seems to be the issue here?

Yes, the ENTIRE movie has this weird blurry glow filter over it (nicknamed the vaseline filter by Scream fans). The first time I saw this movie it was really distracting, but over time I've gotten used to it. I still don't think it's good by any means, but it's definitely not as bad as in this specific shot the WHOLE time...

Like in this shot, it's not very noticeable (well with the image compression kind of is but ignore that) and that's due to the lighting.

As you can see in the first shot I showed, the light coming from behind + the filter is a match made in cinematic hell, but here at night with light coming from in front of the actors and not behind them the shot looks pretty good!

All this to say, the 2000s slaughter town will have a color filter on it. It'll be hard to find how strong I want that filter to be, because there's a very fine line between having it be really strong for comedic effect and having it be really strong to where the scenes look (unintentionally) ugly.

Filming Change

Originally I was wanting to film over Spring Break, but I think it'll actually be better to film the next week.

As I look through the list of characters and locations I'll need, it's much more important for me to have more time to plan everything out rather than to film as quickly as possible since I know the editing won't take me very long. For example, I can use this week to work on and plan out certain things I want to include in the edit that I'll also need to film, or have more time to plan out what props I'll need when filming.

Of course I'll be posting updates so look out for those!

Trailer 1 Dialogue

 (1) Brady: No way... they're remaking slaughter town!

(2) Mack: Hopefully it's better than the first remake...

(3) Brady: Hey, I love that movie.

(4) Mack: It totally messes up everything that's great about the original, the new ending is dumb, and the don't even get me started about the filter.

(5) Brady: Wanna watch it?

(6) Mack: You seriously own that?

(7) Brady: Uhh yeah! I've seen it like a million times. I even got the special edition.

(8) Brady: I got it for super cheap from some guy online and besides a few glitches it works perfectly.

(9) Brady: That always happens...

(10) Mack: That doesn't look safe

(11) Brady: What happened...?

(12) Mack: Why is everything so green...?

        Brady: Oh my god.

(13) Mack: What?

       Brady: We're in the movie.

       Mack: Huh?

       Brady: WE'RE IN THE MOVIE!

(14) Brady: Just us being here is already changing the movie. She wasn't supposed to survive, and now the killer might go for someone else instead.

(15) Brady: We need to fix the movie, and then find a way out of here.

Mack: I think getting out of here is more important!

Posters

In the poster for Last Night in Soho, the first thing you notice is how it's split in half. If you look closer and follow the line to the bottom of the image you'll see that the split is actually a crack in the glass. The next thing you'll likely notice is the consistent color scheme of red and blue. Not only is the poster split into blue and red halves, but all the text, the title, and the production logos follow the same color scheme. The red color also works really well with the rain on the glass as on the red side it evokes blood.

(I included the official poster and an alternate version that I like better and inspired me more, but I'll mostly be talking about the official poster)

In the poster for The Final Girls, the first thing you notice is that everything is illustrated (or at least edited to look like it's illustrated). The poster shows all of the main characters, the location, and the killer in what I feel is an appealing way. There are many posters that try to show all of these elements that don't look nearly as good (aka "floating head posters").

                                                                   (alternate version)

(this one isn't THAT bad, but I chose it to show a recent example of a floating head poster for a horror movie)

Another important element of the poster is the small review, which in this case comes from Sam Raimi. Having a positive quote from an established source lends credibility to the movie and might convince fans of the person giving the quote to watch the movie.

These examples inspired me as I really wanted to have my poster to have some sort of split but I didn't really know how to visualize it. Obviously, the alternate version of The Final Girls' poster with the killer slicing the poster is a reference to this iconic poster from Jason Takes Manhattan, but seeing a similar design being used for this film helped to connect the dots in terms of what I wanted to do for my poster.

In a previous blog post, I wrote out my idea for a poster, but after researching some more I think I have a better idea.

As also mentioned in another previous blog post, I will also be creating 2 separate posters that would be seen within the movie, but now I'm thinking I can incorporate some of the elements from those posters into my main poster. I really like the visual of the machete cutting through the poster, so I'm thinking I'll continue my idea of having my poster split in half using that same effect.

Trailer 1 Outline Progress

I'm not finished with my shot list yet, but I wanted to post what I have so far to explain my process.

I have been writing down my shots while referring to two trailers that I've found to be similar to the one I want to create, for various reasons.

The Scream (2022) Trailer because the first minute is one long scene, and my trailer will also have that, and the Cocaine Bear (2023) Trailer to see how the comedy and the horror's screentime are shared in a trailer.

Additionally, I've written down numbers next to certain shots, which correspond to potential dialogue I want to include during that moment. (shown at the bottom. I've just been writing down general ideas, so once I make the full scripts the dialogue will be refined.)

The Profile

I’ve created a social media profile for the movie!
(@DoubleFeatureMovie was sadly too long of a username)

I've chosen twitter as the social platform I'll be using because that is the social media I am most familiar with, and I've seen how other movies are promoted on that platform.

Although I don't have any content to post yet, I didn't want to have my profile be blank so I added an image of tv static as the profile picture and a solid black header.

I did this because I looked at some social media profiles for movies that don't have any information yet, such as Sony's upcoming Madame Web movie, and as you can see, there is barely anything on the profile... but it's not blank. With it at least having a description, people will want to follow the page to learn more about the movie as it gets closer to it's release date (which has been announced elsewhere, but for some reason this profile hasn't been updated...).

I'll be posting on that profile as soon as I have something to post, so here's the link to the profile
