I'm Sebastian Garcia, and this is my Creative Critical Reflection.
My opening plays into the tropes of teen horror and but subverts some as well.
Many times in horror movies, an opening sequence or scene involves a killing of some kind to set up both the villain/killer and also to set up the consequences and stakes at hand. Many times these first killings are of a
female character. My opening subverts this in two ways: By not killing the character involved in the opening and
also by the character being a male. This change to the perspective of my film could lead to more subversions later on in
the film, which could show scenes that often happen in horror movies but from a different perspective.
The easiest way for my film to be distributed would be by uploading it to Youtube. From there I could share it on
social media to promote it. By using social media, I would target a younger demographic. My film, which stars teen characters, could be relatable to this audience. Horror films predominantly attract moviegoers under
the age of 25, with around a 42% female audience and a 58% male audience. Men in horror movies are often portrayed
as the main heroes, so in my film, I just to show how a man can also be the victim of these common horror tropes usually
attached to women and female characters.
My production skills developed a lot during this project. I did a lot more pre-production than I had ever done before.
Stuff like doing storyboards, research about the genres I was working on, and overall just doing a lot of planning.
I also paid a lot more attention to how and what exactly I was filming, which helped me use objects I already had
in ways I didn't think of before.
I integrated technology into this project mainly by posting blogs on Blogger. I also used my phone to film my opening,
as well as to edit shots on the fly to see how they'd look in a sequence. I also used my laptop to edit my opening.
In conclusion, this project really hit me hard with all the work I know now is neccessary for larger projects like these.
I am really going to take to heart my mistakes but also everything good that I learned along the way.
